The
audio is as important as the imagery in most of these 12 videos. Neil
Ira Needleman's My First Film Noir is image free--a fanciful noirish
plot
unfolds in on-screen text to a sonic collage of overheated movie music.
A
percussive, echo-laden sound track sets the tone for the dense
superimpositions of Tossy Timmy's Bobby's Friends, which includes the
piercing, uncanny eyes of a boy's dolls. Doug Lussenhop's Plastic Crimewave
Sound: Grade Ceased (2003) is an admirably intense, even assaultive,
music
video. Of particular interest are three music videos from Baghdad: in
one
predating the invasion a soldier appears to rap Saddam's praises in
Arabic
while others wave their guns; in a more recent one Saddam is made to
sing "I
know the devil is by my side." The program includes live performances
by
several bands. 68 min.
